Immigrant associations schedule protest outside parliament for October 25

Various associations representing immigrants in Portugal have scheduled a protest to take place outside parliament in Lisbon on October 25 calling for the reinstatement of the “manifestation of interest” document that has allowed thousands to enter this country with little means of financial support and no work, in order to try and start a new life. As reports have explained, this one document – scrapped with only a day’s notice by the AD government – allowed immigrants (without work or fixed abode) to start with the process of applying for Portuguese residency.
