81 electric vehicles acquired for home care services

The Algarve’s Regional Health Administration is distributing the cars among the region’s primary healthcare and continuous integrated care teams.

At the end of July, the Algarve’s Regional Health Administration (ARS) initiated its phased delivery process of the 81 electric vehicles acquired under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

According to the entity, the vehicles are intended for regional health centres’ primary health care and continuous integrated care teams. The new cars were purchased to strengthen the teams’ response capacity in providing local healthcare, home support, and community interventions for the population.

Distribution of electric vehicles and charging stations to the Health Centers in the 16 municipalities of the region began at the end of July and is projected to be completed by September.

According to the ARS, these vehicles will allow health professionals to reach the population, improving the efficiency of multidisciplinary teams in Primary Care, Integrated Continuous Care, Palliative Care, and home support at Health Centres while also reducing local healthcare inequalities.

“It is the first electric fleet acquired by the institution, and we are very pleased to be able to offer better working conditions to professionals who provide care directly to people. Through sustainable mobility we are improving the response of the National Health Service in Primary Healthcare in our region”, highlights Paulo Morgado, president of the Board of Directors of ARS Algarve.

The ARS Algarve is obtaining these vehicles via an international public tender to aid in funding the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and drive modernization and sustainable growth within the framework of the Primary Health Care Reform. This involves supplying electric vehicles for home care services at Health Centers and expanding the National Integrated Continuous Care Network into Integrated Continuous Care Teams, with a total investment of about €2,370,000.00.
