New Algarve-Iceland air link to launch in April 2025

Algarve and Iceland to be linked by direct flight

A new air link between Faro in Portugal’s Algarve region and Keflavík International Airport, around 50km southwest of the Icelandic capital of Reykjavík, is due to be launched by Play Airlines in April 2025.

Says the Icelandic low-cost airline in a statement, the inaugural flight linking the Algarve to the Nordic island country is scheduled for April 12, with two weekly flights operating on Saturdays and Wednesdays through October 29.

Tickets are already for sale on the airline’s website. Prices for the inaugural flight begin at €207 (departing from Reykjavik) and €155 (departing from Faro).

With the addition of Faro to our growing network, we are excited to offer more opportunities for travellers to affordably explore the world. This new route reflects our commitment to connecting North America and Europe through Iceland, providing our passengers with exceptional service and unforgettable experiences,” says Einar Örn Ólafsson, CEO of PLAY Airlines.

In its statement, the airline describes itself as “low-cost carrier that connects North America and Europe, with Iceland as its central hub. Passengers can take advantage of PLAY’s unique stopover option, allowing them to explore Iceland for up to 10 days at no additional cost before continuing their transatlantic journey.

“Since launching its first flight in June 2021, PLAY has grown rapidly, now operating a fleet of 10 Airbus A320/321neo aircraft with an average age of just over two years,” it adds.
