PJ captures second suspect linked to Portimão kidnapping and robbery

Following the capture of the primary suspect, the PJ has now taken into custody the accomplice in the kidnapping and robbery of two women in a Portimão home.

On Wednesday, August 28, the Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested the second suspect in the co-authorship of a robbery and kidnapping committed in a residence in Portimão on Saturday, August 24, a crime for which the authorities had already made a first arrest, announced the police force.

The second arrest was made following inquiries conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department of the PJ of Portimão, which has gathered proof indicating the occurrence of a “qualified robbery and kidnapping” offence involving two victims who were present in the house at the time of the suspect’s entry.

In a statement, the PJ detailed how the suspect, along with another man who was arrested on the day of the crime, allegedly planned a meeting with two women at their residence. Threatening them with a sharp weapon, the suspects intended to rob the women. The victims were tied up “with cable ties around their wrists”, had their mouths covered “with tape,” and were confined to a bathroom in the house.

The Judiciary highlighted that one of the men then watched the victims while the other looked for valuables around the house, where he found and stole “a large amount of money and an electronic device.”

The 39-year-old man who was apprehended has a history of drug dealing and is scheduled to appear in court for his initial questioning and potential enforcement actions, as stated by the law enforcement agency.
