“Art of pairing” cheese and wine inspires Apolónia’s new event
Apolónia Supermarkets has announced the launch of a Wine and Cheese Fair, an event “dedicated to the art of pairing two of the most iconic gastronomic delicacies”.
Taking place between September 5 and 22 at Apolónia’s supermarkets in Lagoa, Galé and Almancil as well as on its website, the event is a spiritual successor to the group’s Wine Fair and aims to showcase the “quality and variety of its wine section and delicatessen, which are among the biggest and most prestigious in the country,” Apolónia Supermarkets says in a communiqué.

A catalogue for the event has been created, featuring discounts of up to 50% on a selection of over 450 wines and around 200 cheeses. For each wine region featured in the catalogue, a pairing of a wine and cheese is recommended by 19 renowned chefs and sommeliers from “some of the best restaurants in the Algarve.” Among them are Michelin-starred chefs and big names such as Dieter Koschina from Vila Joya, Albufeira; Henrique Leis from his self-titled restaurant in Loulé; José Lopes from Bon Bon in Carvoeiro; and Miguel Martins, sommelier at Authentic in Almancil.
Throughout the fair, customers at the three supermarkets will be able to enjoy tastings of some of the wines and cheeses featured in the event.
“This fair reflects our commitment to offering gastronomic experiences of excellence. This year, we wanted to innovate so we added higher quality cheeses to wine, creating unique opportunities for discovery and tastings,” says Ângela Sarmento, Head of Marketing at Apolónia.
