Former Socialist foreign affairs minister chosen to head up mission to observe elections in Mozambique

Former PS Socialist minister for foreign affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, has been chosen to head up the mission by the CPLP (community of Portuguese-speaking languages) to observe elections taking place next month in Mozambique. The choice came because, according to CPLP executive secretary Zacarias da Costa, “up until now, Portugal has not led many election observation missions”, and, in da Costa’s opinion, Gomes Cravinho has the “right profile” for this one. The EU will also be sending its own mission to observe these elections, as Mozambique seeks to move forwards.
