Inquiry launched into mistaken hospital discharge that led to patient’s death

An inquiry has been launched by the Cascais Public Prosecutor’s Office into the mistaken discharge of a 79-year-old man from Cascais Hospital, with medication prescribed for someone else. The 79 year old, who was not well enough to have been discharged, and did not get any better taking medication for another patient, died three weeks later. His family has filed a complaint against Cascais Hospital for negligent homicide. As reports today explain, the ‘mistake’ was only ‘identified’ after the patient’s death.
