Almost 900 young people benefit from government’s house purchase breaks

Portugal’s minister for youth and modernisation has announced that 894 young people have applied for support for Youth Housing since the government’s tax breaks came into force on August 1. Speaking at the Culture, Communication, Youth and Sport Committee, Margarida Balseiro Lopes gave an overview of her ministry’s initiatives, highlighting the exemption from Municipal Transaction Tax (IMT) and Stamp Duty (IS) on the purchase of a first permanent home for young people up to the age of 35 for properties priced up to €316,772. Another of the ministry’s initiatives is the public guarantee on housing loans for young people. Balseiro Lopes acknowledged delays in implementing this measure, but assured that it will be in force by December this year.
