150 false residence certificates detected in Beringel, Beja

In the first 13 days of September alone, 170 residence certificates were requested in the town of Beringel, in the municipality of Beja. All for the same houses and with the same witnesses. The number of immigrants in the town has been increasing, writes SIC Notícias: around 70 residence certificates were requested each year, but by 2024, 600 had already been requested. The local parish council “detected the 150 false residences in a joint action with GNR police”, says the station, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office has now opened an investigation. In the meantime, the parish council has suspended issuing residence certificates.
