Property sales to foreign residents fell 2.8% in second quarter year-on-year 

House sales to foreign residents in Portugal fell by 2.8% in the second quarter compared to the same period last year, to 2,464 homes, representing 6.6% of the total compared to 6.2% in the first quarter of this year, INE national statistics institute has announced today. According to INE’s Housing Price Index (IPHab) , among buyers with a tax residence outside of Portugal, the category of European Union (EU) residents, with a total of 1,242 homes, recorded a year-on-year increase in the number of transactions of 5.8% – the first since the third quarter of 2022. But the category of buyers with a tax residence outside the EU recorded 1,222 transactions and a year-on-year decrease of 10.2% in the number of transactions (-11.9% in the first quarter of 2024). Each of these two categories represents 3.3% of the total number of housing transactions in Portugal.
