With news that the former PS government’s nationalisation and subsequent sale of engineering company Efacec is likely to cost taxpayers as much as €564 million, Iniciativa Liberal – the country’s 4th political force – is calling for a parliamentary inquiry to which all those who led the ruinous process could be questioned. Among figures IL seeks to quiz are former prime minister António Costa and former economy minister Pedro Siza Vieira. The last government’s solutions for Efacec have already cost the state €484 million, but a scathing report by the Accounts Court has warned the financial pain has not yet come to an end.
