A manifesto signed by numerous ‘personalities’ is calling for a ‘horn honking protest in Lisbon’ against ‘uncontrolled tourism’ that, they say, is turning the capital into a ‘Disneyland’. “Por Lisboa, faz-te ouvir!” (For Lisbon, make yourself heard), subscribers are asking people to ‘mobilise’ in six locations – including outside City Hall – between 9am and 1pm on Wednesday, October 9 and make a racket. “Either we assume that Lisbon will be a Disneyland, or a Las Vegas, with a specific objective (…) people will go there understanding they are entering that kind of environment, or people want to live in a city”, says the document. The six locations are: Praça do Município; Ediifício da CML — Campo Grande; Chiado; São Pedro de Alcântara; Portas do Sol and Avenida da Liberdade.
