Karting World Championship finale to take place this week in Portimão
The highly anticipated finale of the FIA Karting season is set to unfold in Portimão from Thursday to Sunday (October 10-13).
With nearly 200 of the world’s top karting drivers representing 31 countries, the Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship – KZ promises high-octane action, alongside the FIA Karting World Cup – KZ2 and the FIA Karting International Masters Super Cup.
The event will take place at the Algarve International Karting Circuit – just a stone’s throw away from the International Racetrack in Portimão.
“Located within the superb complex dedicated to motorsport, the karting track offers a 1,531-metre-long layout, full of elevation changes, fast and spectacular,” FIA Karting says in a statement, stressing that “the site is not often used for karting competitions.”
In the main KZ category, reigning European champion Lorenzo Travisanutto (Italy) is the favourite, although runner-up Senna Van Walstijn (Netherlands) is also considered a strong contender. Meanwhile, the KZ2 World Cup will see more than 100 participants with a wide range of experience. Three drivers – Mattéo Spirgel (France), Daniel Vasile (Romania) and Maksim Orlov (Russia) – are included among the frontrunners, along with Markus Rajak (Estonia), Artem Severiukhin (Russia), Corentin Rousseau (France); Cristian Bertuca (Italy), Nikolas Roos (South Africa) and Paavo Tonteri (Finland).
