PSD MPs in the Algarve approve of budget
PSD’s proposed State Budget for 2025 has been praised by the party’s MPs in the Algarve, who believe it not only “does not ignore the Algarve” but indeed “makes the region a priority.”
Ofélia Ramos, who coordinates the party’s MPs in the Algarve, has highlighted several key commitments to the Algarve outlined in the proposal, which include critical investments in healthcare. The MP highlights the government’s plan to build the region’s long-promised Central Hospital, an oncology centre, and five Type-C health units. “The Algarve is at the centre of health policies,” Ramos stresses, adding that while these investments “will take time to complete,” they will lead to “major positive impacts” on the health of the region’s population.
Another major initiative included in the budget is a €360 million programme aimed at improving the region’s water supply, which Ramos described as “vital” and already in progress.
The MP also pointed to the government’s pledge to resolve the ongoing dispute over the renovations of the EN125 road, a long-standing issue affecting the section between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António.
Additionally, the budget addresses educational challenges, including efforts to tackle the region’s shortage of teachers and better integrate students from other countries.
According to Ramos, the measures reflect the government’s response to long-standing demands from the Algarve’s population and represent “critical opportunities” for the region. The MP also vowed to closely monitor the implementation of these measures to ensure they move beyond promises and deliver tangible benefits to the Algarve.
“The Algarve is crucial for the country,” she stated. “It deserves public policies that acknowledge its importance and address its specific needs. I will remain vigilant to ensure that the promises in this budget become a reality, for the benefit of all who live in this region”.
