Name of President Marcelo’s son appears in mega tax fraud case in Spain

Nuno Rebelo de Sousa says he knows nothing about it

The son of the President of Portugal is once again in the news – this time in Spain.

According to reports today, Nuno Rebelo de Sousa is mentioned in an alleged exchange of messages (in 2021) between the former president of Zamora football club and a businessman in the hydrocarbon sector.

The messages are currently under investigation in the context of a spin-off from the so-called Koldo case, for which the former president of Zamora, Víctor de Aldama has already been arrested. They centre on an operation to expand the business of Villafuel, a filling station chain, to Portugal.

According to Sábado, in the exchange (via the Signal app) Aldama tells businessman Claudio Rivas that he has a meeting arranged with the ‘son of the president of Portugal’ and that the latter had asked him if he could ‘join the company with a percentage’.

Claudio Rivas replies “no no” (for various reasons) and the conversation thus moves on.

Nuno Rebelo de Sousa has reportedly said that he doesn’t know the man (referring to Aldama) and that this entire subject is “totally foreign to him”.

Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, living in Brazil, is believed these days to be estranged from his VIP father due to his involvement in the ‘Luso-Brazilian twins scandal’, for which he is already under investigation by the public prosecutor’s office.

According to Públic, the Koldo case “concerns a network of companies, four of them based in Elvas, Portugal, through which money from deals between Víctor Aldama, the then Spanish Minister for Development and Transport, José Ábalos, and a former PSOE advisor, Koldo García, was diverted and laundered. Spanish authorities believe that, in 2021, Ábalos and Koldo received bribes from the president of Zamora in exchange for million-dollar contracts for the purchase of clinical equipment during the Covid-19 pandemic“.

As a result of the Koldo investigations, another investigation was opened into alleged tax evasion over two years in the hydrocarbons business.

Picking up on Sábado’s exclusive today, Público explains: “The case resulted in the arrest of 14 people this week, including Víctor Aldama and Claudio Rivas. According to El Confidencial, which carried the news, the conversations between the two about Nuno Rebelo de Sousa are further proof of their closeness in this network“.
