In spite of all noises to the contrary on Friday – with even President Marcelo seemingly eschewing the need for a Council of State as the budget is on track to be approved – the weekend saw more ‘fire and brimstone’ from the left, with PS leader Pedro Nuno Santos vehemently insisting that this budget is NOT one of the left; would have been very different if it was devised by the left – and the right in this country is “not to be trusted” – and PCP communists considering that it is ‘counterrevolutionary’ and an attack on the Constitution.
There are two weeks still to go before the ‘general voting and debate’ set for October 30/ 31 – and the country is destined (whether it likes it or not) to be kept ‘on the edge of its seat’ over whether minority parties will vote in the interests of stability, or force yet another round of legislative elections.
