Portugal’s minister of agriculture, José Manuel Fernandes, said on Thursday that apple producers affected by the bad weather about a week ago would receive support to replace the destroyed trees.
“We will support the replacement of the trees that have fallen,” he told reporters at the end of a visit to orchards that were totally destroyed in the municipality of Armamar, in the Viseu district.
José Manuel Fernandes explained that there are criteria for receiving this support, “such as 30% of the plot being affected”, with the aim being “to restore productive capacity”.
The percentage of eligible expenditure varies depending on the associated investment; he explained: “Up to €10,000, the support is 100%; from €10,000 to €50,000, it’s 85% and above €50,000, it’s 50%”.
