Foreign tourist spending at all time high in August

Tourist receipts, with spending by foreign tourists in Portugal, totalled €4.1 billion in August, an all-time high, according to figures from the Bank of Portugal (BdP) released today. Travel and tourism exports, which show the expenditure made by non-residents in Portugal as part of a trip or stay in Portugal, reached €4,149.07 million in August, the highest figure in the statistical series that began in 1996 and a rise of 4.2% compared to the €3,979.17 million recorded in August 2023. According to the BdP’s data, from January to August foreign tourist spending already totalled €19.1 billion, compared to €17.5 billion in the same period last year.
