Yesterday in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal’s PJ police seized 14.260kg of heroin – the largest seizure so far this year on national territory. As part of the operation, a 28-year-old man was identified and arrested in the act of committing the crime of drug trafficking. As well as heroin, around 9kg of MDMA was also seized, concealed inside the car in which the arrested man was travelling. The quantity of drug product seized, to which cutting product could still be added, would be sufficient for the production and subsequent distribution of thousands of individual doses, considering that one gram of heroin corresponds to 12 individual doses, says the PJ statement. The arrested man will be presented to ‘the competent judicial authorities’ for a decision on whether or not to give bail.
