The Spaying & Neutering Programme has attracted a mixed bag of support
The annual BLiP Expo, held at the Portimão Arena recently, brought many visitors escaping the weekend rain and roadworks!
“Gosh, we were busy!” APAA president Jenny Clarke beamed a sigh of relief. “You can never quite tell with the weather situation. Shall we? Or not?” Luckily a big ‘yes’. “Our new tote-bags raised a lot of interest and sales were excellent with forward orders!” Can’t complain.
The Association for Protection of Animals Algarve has raised much-needed money for their long-running SNiP campaign. The Spaying & Neutering Programme has attracted a mixed bag of support. “Some people just shrug and say ‘not cats again!’, but it is a huge problem, worldwide, not just here in Portugal.” Or sunny Algarve? “We need to get the cat colonies established and get the feral felines whilst still in their cuddly fun stage – well, before maturity and multiplying commences. Most importantly is raising awareness.”
In saying that, there is always helpful interest in the abandonees. “Dogs mostly. And pregnant.” Jenny has been busy with Pop-Up Shop manageress Anita. “We do have to duck the weather issue, but our recent O Tasco pop-up was great despite the clouds.” Keep the flag flying as they say.
‘Cindy’ and her son ‘Barriga & Preto’ are looking very hard for that special somewhere. Hopefully someone can help them find that place – maybe wishful thinking? Rainbows are magical. Make a wish. Cindy and Son (BP) are stranded, owners have to work in Germany. Left behind and needing special care and attention. Not an easy ask. Mum, 11, son, nine, have always been together. But experience has told us that separated in exchange for love, food and exercise can be a done deal! Both SNiP’d and vaccinated.
