Portugal’s minister of defence, Nuno Melo, announced on Sunday that he has signed an order to allow the Army to acquire support and rescue helicopters, as several other allied countries have done. He made the announcement at the close of Army Week which took place in Guarda last week, saying the additional and differentiated capability will allow the Army to move personnel and materials when conducting land operations “across the entire spectrum of military operations: offensive, defensive, stabilisation and civil support from a dual-use perspective”.
