Donations can be made on weekdays throughout November at the Banco de Recursos Lagos Solidário.
Between November 4 and 29, the Municipality of Lagos is promoting a campaign to collect blankets, quilts and other warm clothing.
The initiative, developed by the Lagos Homeless Planning and Intervention Centre, “aims to provide some comfort to people living on the streets, providing them with means to help them withstand the low temperatures of the upcoming winter months”, explains the city hall.
Anyone who wants to contribute can deliver their goods (blankets, sleeping bags, coats, scarves, hats, bath towels, underwear, among other outerwear) to the Banco de Recursos Lagos Solidário.
The institution operates on Rua José Afonso, lote 23, Cave B, in Lagos on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 15h00 to 17h00, and Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10h00 to 12h00.
The collected goods will then be sent to the MAPS—Movement to Support AIDS Problems and the Instituto Fonte de Vida associations, which will distribute them to the homeless people they assist.
The most current official data reveals that in Lagos, there were 85 homeless individuals by December 2023, comprising 75 who lived on the streets and 10 who were in temporary housing, as reported by the Municipality.
