Missing mum-to-be: suspect finally formally accused

Aveiro Public Prosecutor’s Office has finally brought charges against the man arrested by PJ Judicial Police last year on suspicion of killing his pregnant former lover, Mónica Silva, a mother of two whose body has to this day not been found. In a note published on its website, Porto District Attorney’s Office said the indictment, dated Monday November 4, charges Fernando Valente with the crimes of qualified homicide, abortion, desecration of a corpse, illegitimate access and acquisition of counterfeit currency to be put into circulation. Valente has been in preventive custody, followed by house arrest, since he was arrested in November 2023. According to the same note, prosecutors have put in for a €200,000 indemnity to be paid by the suspect to compensate damages caused to Mónica Silva’s children.
