Largest operation “of all time”against human trafficking sees seven arrested in Portugal

An operation against human trafficking coordinated by Interpol in 116 countries and territories, with participation of Portugal’s PJ police, has resulted in seven people being arrested in this country. On a global level, 3,200 potential victims have been ‘rescued’, and 17,793 immigrants identified in “an irregular situation”. Operation Liberterra II took place between September 29 and October 4 this year. On the wider level, 2,517 people have been arrested. Portugal’s arrests followed operations carried out in Sacavém, Sines, Serpa, Leiria and Torres Vedras.
