Saint Andrew’s Ball on November 30

The Saint Andrew’s Society of the Algarve is delighted to announce that we will be having our Ball on Saint Andrew’s Day, Saturday, November 30.

Once again, it will be at the marvellous five-star Penina Hotel, which always looks after us so very well. Participants will be greeted by the skirl of the pipes from 7 pm played by our wonderful piper Malcolm MacGillivray (who has again exceptionally agreed to come out of retirement to play for us). Following a bubbly reception, there will be a bounteous and sumptuous buffet accompanied by wine, followed by coffee and Atholl Brose. Sadly, this will be the last Ball organised by the present Committee.

Afterwards, Scottish dancing will for the umpteenth year be running to the accompaniment of our excellent ceilidh band from Scotland, “The Sound of Islay”. Each dance will be talked and walked through beforehand so no need for beginners to hang back! Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the spectacle!

So, a great opportunity to get out your glad rags – kilts can be worn if available. Tickets will cost €55 for Society members and €57,50 for non-members.

If you prefer not to drive and would rather spend the night at the hotel after the Ball, perhaps with a round of golf before or after, the hotel is offering special rates for Ball participants. If you would like to buy tickets and/or enquire about the Hotel’s special offer – or indeed simply to find out more about the Saint Andrew’s Society – get in touch with Cathy Prentice on cathyprentice2908@gmail.com.

If you would like to sharpen your dancing skills beforehand or even have a go for the first time, why not give it a try. For details contact Mardie Cunningham either on +351 964278432 or e-mail  rosevale45@gmail.com.
