The new INESCTEC.OCEAN centre, led by the Portuguese Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC), with an investment of over €30 million, aims to be an “international reference” in ocean engineering, it was announced today. “Over the next six years, INESCTEC.OCEAN will promote the development of emerging ocean sectors, such as offshore renewable energies, deep sea monitoring, environmental impact assessment of human activities at sea or offshore aquaculture,” said INESC TEC in a statement. The centre of excellence in research and engineering for the sea, heavily funded by Brussels (including PRR funding) will also “promote research and development in these areas, the creation of a network of onshore and offshore technological infrastructures to develop and test technology, the advanced training of human resources, and bringing science closer to the business world, stimulating science-based innovation”.
