Young man confesses stabbing stepfather to death in Almada

Hands himself in to PSP, claiming defence of his mother

A 24-year-old man handed himself into authorities late last night after allegedly stabbing his stepfather to death, in Almada.

The context involves an argument the stepfather was having with the young man’s mother, in the home in which they all lived, in Bairro de Chegadinho, Feijó.

According to the young man’s story, “at one point during the argument, the (stepfather) pulled out a kitchen knife to threaten the woman. The young man intervened” in a confrontation that ended with the stepfather dying from multiple stab wounds.

Authorities called to the scene via 112 were unable to reverse the situation. Police present took the young man’s story, allowing him to remain at home in spite of his arrest for aggravated homicide.

Neither the young man nor his mother required hospital treatment.

Reports stress that authorities “were not aware of any history of domestic violence between the couple, nor had any complaints been made until Thursday night’s violent outcome. The perpetrator of the stabbing has no criminal record and was not referenced for any crime. The victim also had no criminal record. He was accused of other crimes, but had no convictions”.

The young man will be brought before a magistrate later today, for the application of bail measures.
