Over-60s “who need oral health care” will be given it free of charge in 2025 according to a new measure to be included in municipal plans for ‘healthy and active aging’. The decision comes after an OECD study showed that 9% of over-60s in Portugal cannot afford treatment that they desperately need. Only Greece and Latvia have a higher percentage of people in this position. The measure is expected to help up to 500,000 citizens.
Free dental care for over-60s who need it but cannot afford it

According to data from the Portuguese Dental Association (OMD), only 31% of Portuguese have complete dentition and almost 10% are missing all their teeth. In addition, it's important to emphasise that 48.6% of Portuguese with missing natural teeth don't have replacement teeth.
