Conrad Algarve has joined the portfolio of Quinta do Lago
The Algarve’s luxurious Quinta do Lago resort has acquired the prestigious Conrad Algarve hotel from a fund managed by ECS, an asset management entity partly owned by Davidson Kempner Capital Management.
This landmark transaction, described as a “historic acquisition“, has been officially confirmed by the resort months after it was reported that Denis O’Brien – the owner of Quinta do Lago – was planning to buy the hotel for around €100 million. However, the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The five-star Conrad Algarve boasts an impressive array of amenities: 154 suites, 80 apartments, two villas, six restaurants (one Michelin-starred) and bars, and a world-class spa. Located within the Quinta do Lago resort in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the addition of Conrad Algarve to the resort’s portfolio is seen as a transformative move for the brand.
Sean Moriarty, CEO of Quinta do Lago, highlighted the significance of the acquisition: ““As Quinta do Lago continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s most prestigious lifestyle and wellness destinations, this acquisition represents a transformative step. Adding a property of this calibre to Quinta do Lago’s portfolio aligns perfectly with our dedication to creating extraordinary experiences for our guests. Conrad Algarve is a perfect complement to our well-established offerings, further elevating our reputation as a global destination for exclusivity.”
“This milestone reflects our vision to shape and lead the hospitality industry, combining timeless elegance with innovation. Quinta do Lago is not just a resort; it is a community and a legacy built on excellence. By incorporating this exceptional hotel, we reaffirm our commitment to setting new standards of luxury and paving the way for the future of high-end hospitality in the Algarve and beyond,” added Moriarty, who lead the purchase of the hotel alongside the resort’s CFO, Miguel Sousa.
The deal was also celebrated by Manuel Noronha Andrade, CEO of ECS.
“We are proud to have supported the growth of Conrad Algarve, positioning it as a beacon of excellence. Under its new management, we are confident the resort will continue to set the benchmark for hospitality in the region.”
Legal support for the transaction was provided by PLMJ on behalf of Quinta do Lago, while Uría Menéndez advised the seller. CBRE and Eastdil Secured acted as intermediaries in the deal.
