Santa kicks off festive fun in Faro

Santa’s House and Christmas market headline the holiday programme

The Christmas season in Faro is in full swing following Santa’s arrival on November 30, marking the official start of the city’s holiday programme.

The festivities, organised by municipal council in collaboration with several local associations, will continue until December 24, featuring a variety of events spread across Faro’s downtown area.

One of the highlights will be Santa’s House, located in the former Martinez store on Rua Tenente Valadim, which will serve as the hub of Christmas festivities in the city centre and where children will be able to meet Santa.

Street performances, concerts, workshops and other events are also planned to take place throughout the downtown area.

Another standout event will be a Christmas market organised by municipal company Ambifaro, taking place until December 23 at Jardim Manuel Bívar. Open from 11am to 9pm, the market will feature stalls selling a variety of products, as well as live performances.

Faro mayor Rogério Bacalhau says the holiday festivities – coupled with the Christmas lights which were switched on throughout the borough on November 22 – aim to bring the city to life, benefitting local businesses and restaurants by attracting “new visitors and tourists”.
