Every dog deserves a chance to feel safe and loved.
For dogs like Casper and Bonnie, this starts with a foster home. Once homeless and deeply traumatized, these dogs require a calm, patient environment to rebuild their trust in humans. Despite the dedication of shelter staff and volunteers, the bustling atmosphere of a shelter can never replace the individualized care a foster home provides. Each day spent in the shelter adds to their stress and makes overcoming their fears even harder.
Meet Casper and Bonnie
Casper, a young male dog, was found in Colinas Verdes after being abandoned by people who left an empty house behind. He survived on the streets for months, fed by kind locals but always keeping his distance. Even now, after months in the shelter, Casper struggles to relax around people, finding comfort only with a small number of trusted volunteers.
Bonnie’s story is equally heartbreaking. Born on the streets of Portelas, she lived her early months with no contact with humans. While kind residents fed her mother, Bonnie grew up fearful of people and remains shy and anxious. She feels most secure around other dogs and has recently started enjoying walks, thanks to the patient care of volunteers. Bonnie is a sweet-natured girl who would thrive in a calm, loving home where she can build trust and gain confidence.
Why fostering matters
Gail Skinner, founder of Awesome Dogs Training School, highlights the critical role of fostering for dogs like Casper and Bonnie. In a foster home, these dogs can receive the one-on-one attention they desperately need to build trust and start to connect with humans.
Whether it’s a home with no other pets or one with a single calm dog, fostering provides the ideal environment for these animals to begin their journey of healing.
By fostering, you can make a life-changing difference. With patience, compassion, and a quiet space, you’ll offer dogs like Casper and Bonnie the chance to experience safety and love – perhaps for the very first time.
Support for foster families
At Cadela Carlota, we understand that fostering can feel like a big commitment, especially when it comes to costs. That’s why our shelter covers all expenses, including food, vet bills, and supplies, so you can focus entirely on giving these dogs the care they need.
How you can help
If you’ve ever considered fostering, now is the time to step forward. The emotional rewards are priceless. By opening your home to a dog like Casper or Bonnie, you’re giving them a second chance at life – a chance they might never get otherwise.
