Suspect is said to be the victim’s ex-boyfriend
A 14-year-old girl was rescued by GNR police on Tuesday after being abducted in the northern Portuguese town of Paços de Ferreira and transported in the trunk of a car by a 21-year-old man, allegedly her ex-boyfriend.
The incident began with a report of the girl’s abduction, prompting the police force to launch a manhunt to locate the vehicle and suspect. Authorities tracked the car to Vila Nova de Famalicão, where they intercepted the suspect and detained him, GNR police say in a statement.
The girl was found in the trunk of the car, her wrists bound and covered with a blanket. She was removed from the vehicle and taken to a “secure location” without requiring medical attention.
Items seized during the operation included a roll of duct tape, a kitchen knife, a mobile phone, a scarf used to conceal the suspect’s identity, and the vehicle itself.
The suspect, which Jornal de Notícias reports is allegedly the victim’s ex-boyfriend, remains in custody and has appeared before the Judicial Court of Vila Nova de Famalicão.
