Only 3.9% of buildings refurbished by 2023; 2030 target is 49%

Portugal has only renovated 3.9% of residential and non-residential buildings since 2018, with the target for 2030 being 49%, according to a report released today by the Portuguese Energy Agency(Adene). Between 2018 and 2023, Portugal reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from residential and non-residential buildings by 45.7%, according to the report by the Coordination Group for the Long-Term Strategy for Building Renovation (ELPRE). This decrease is partly due to the increase in renewable energy production, both locally and at source, and the disappearance of coal from the electricity generation system – but, the bottom line is that much more needs to be done if the country is going to comply with the 2030 target.
