Man arrested in Vila Real de Santo António after threatening police with knife

Officer was able to disarm man using a police baton

A 40-year-old foreign citizen was arrested last weekend by PSP police officers in the Algarve town of Vila Real de Santo António for causing disturbances and threatening officers with a knife.

Police were called after the man was reportedly walking in the middle of a local road on Saturday (December 14) at around 11pm, obstructing traffic and disturbing pedestrians, the PSP police force says in a statement.

When approached by officers, the man brandished a knife in an apparent attempt to intimidate them. Ignoring repeated police orders to drop the weapon, the man advanced towards the officers, appearing intent on attacking them.

Acting swiftly, one officer managed to disarm the man using a police baton, neutralising the threat and placing the man under arrest.
