Young soldier dies from injuries received at Military Academy in Lisbon

A young soldier, named as Aloísio Baldé, injured following an incident with a firearm at the Military Academy in Lisbon yesterday, died in the early hours of this morning. In a statement, the Army said that the 25-year-old died in São José Hospital. Expressing “pain and enormous consternation”, the statement said Baldé “left prematurely and unexpectedly”. An investigation has been opened “with a view to determining the causes of what happened”. Tributes over social media describe “a humble, good-hearted, super polite” young man who “came from São Tomé and Príncipe with the aim of changing the lives of those he loved”.
