LIGA PORTUGAL BETCLIC: FAMALICÃO 1-2 FARENSE
LIGA PORTUGAL 2 MEU SUPER: PORTIMONENSE 1-1 AC VISEU
Both of the Algarve’s professional clubs secured important points to climb out of the bottom two of their respective divisions last Saturday afternoon.
Top tier Farense leapfrogged Arouca and Boavista with a deserved victory at Famalicão. Elves Baldé led a counter-attack on the half-hour mark, providing the cross for Marco Matias to head the visitors into the lead before Farense doubled their advantage with a spectacular Miguel Menino shot only two minutes into the second half.
There was a late scare for the ‘Faro Lions’ late on when Oscar Aranda pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, but manager Tozé Marreco’s men held on for the first away win of the season. Farense next play Guimarães at home this coming Sunday afternoon.
Second division Portimonense proved that the old Jimmy Greaves adage ‘a game of two halves’ still applies today when sharing the points with AC Viseu at their Municipal Stadium.
The visitors were well in command during the opening 45 minutes and led through an Ott Gautir strike at the interval. But the Algarveans came storming back, Ruan and Tamble going close before the relentless pressure finally paid off when João Pinto turned a 69th-minute Teodoro cross into his own net.
The draw now sees Portimonense, who next welcome Alverca on the morning of January 4, ahead of both Oliveirense and Porto B in the league table.
