Health minister Ana Paula Martins says an inquiry has been opened into how the SNS24 ‘hotline’ (which all citizens are meant to call before travelling to hospital A&E departments) managed to send a sick child to a pediatric service that was ‘shut for Christmas’. She admits that there appears to have been a “miscommunication” between the hotline and the hospital, which is something that should not happen … As it is, according to reports, the mother of the sick child was left waiting over an hour and a half before being advised to go to the pediatric department that she could see herself, from information online, was closed. The mother, Vanda Almeida, claims not to have been the only person incorrectly advised.
