Three men suffer ‘serious injuries’
Three men suffered serious injuries yesterday in “yet another episode of violent crime in the neighbourhood of Cova da Moura, Amadora”.
Tabloid Correio da Manhã brings this latest story from the area which has been notorious for violent episodes for well over 10 years.
This latest – very much like a number before it – involved shots being fired from a moving vehicle.
Past incidents have ended in real tragedies. This one, mercifully, did not result in any fatalities: initially two victims made their own way to Hospital Amadora-Sintra with gunshot wounds to their legs, while a third victim arrived some time afterwards, suffering from a knife wound to the chest. It is unclear whether the knife wound was suffered in the same disturbance.
Police were only aware of the injuries following an alert they received from medical personnel at the hospital.
The first victims arrived shortly after 4am (having been transported by car by friends/ relatives); the third made it a few hours later under his own steam, and had to be submitted to surgery.
Due to the fact that a fire arm, or arms, were used, PJ police are now in charge of this investigation, and will be checking CCTV cameras in the area for any clues as to the identity of the shooter/ s.
As CM stresses, police are now “attentive to any movements in the neighbourhood” as the possibility of a revenge attack is now “real”.
It was in the Cova da Moura neighbourhood in October that a young PSP agent shot and killed a Cape Verdean chef, sparking a wave of violence throughout outlying suburbs in the Greater Lisbon area.
