Following the ‘misunderstanding’ (widely believed to have been politically-motivated) between the Bank of Portugal (now governed by former Socialist finance minister Mário Centeno) and the government, the proposed ‘super manager’ requisitioned at the bank’s (supposed) expense to help coordinate the government’s programme, has said he cannot take up the position. This leaves the executive having to find a substitute, and (…this is the big question) opposition parties want to know whether the substitute will also be paid twice the amount received per month by the prime minister.
