Best year ever for Christmas Shoeboxes for the Elderly

Well over 300 boxes were collected and distribute

This Christmas marked the 20th year the Silves-based family charity Castelo de Sonhos (CdeS) delivered shoeboxes filled with Christmas goodies and warm clothing to elderly folk in and around the Silves area.

Well over 300 boxes were collected and distributed, which is the most ever received. CdeS would like to thank everyone who contributed to this annual project with special thanks going to: Rotary Club of Silves; Kathleen Kuys and friends in the Boliqueime, São Brás and Almancil area; Need A Charity for All; The Portimão Moonlighters Group; Monchique Golf Club; and The Algarve Crochet & Knitting Group of Armação de Pêra for items of warm clothing.

A huge thank you to the Masonic Lodges of Prince Henry the Navigator & Widows Sons for their generous donation of 20 Christmas large food hampers and toys.

Also thanks to DEKA German-speaking Lutheran Church of Carvoeiro for a donation to buy Christmas food for families registered with CdeS.

CdeS would like to thank The Food Company (ex-Iceland) in Guia for all their valued support plus donations of chocolates, biscuits etc. Also to be thanked are The Moonlight Bar in Praia da Rocha and the Water Dog Pub in Armação de Pêra for allowing their premises to be used as drop-off points.

Due to the amazing number of boxes this festive season, CdeS was able to distribute not only to the elderly registered with the charity but also Associação Guarda-Chuva, Barlavento Hospital and care homes looking after elderly with no family.

CdeS is very happy to report that some members of the public have started distributing their boxes to elderly in rural areas further away from Silves, so the goodwill is being spread far and wide. Last but not least, thanks to Nada Offner for poster design.

To all CdeS supporters and volunteers, a very happy and prosperous New Year!
