US tour operators report growing interest in Portugal
A recent study by the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) has placed Portugal as the second most popular destination for American travellers in 2025.
The survey, conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers with 96% of USTOA members participating, places Portugal just behind Italy, with Greece rounding out the top three.
The rankings also highlight France and Japan, tied for fourth place, followed by Spain, Iceland, Croatia, and South Africa. The list concludes with a three-way tie for tenth place between Australia, Morocco, and Thailand.
Portugal has been growing as an attractive destination for Americans, who are being wooed by the country both as a holiday destination as well as a place to live.
Between January and June 2024, more than one million U.S. tourists visited Portugal, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Furthermore, a report on migration shows that the number of U.S. residents in Portugal soared by 44% from 2022 to 2023, reaching over 14,000 by mid-2024.
Donald Trump’s victory in November’s US elections also led to a surge in Americans exploring how to move to Portugal.
