Nuno Borges and Jaime Faria are the two Portuguese tennis players qualified for the Australian Open (AO), the first Grand Slam tournament of the new ATP Tour season.
Nuno Borges – ranked 36th and currently in the semi-finals of the Auckland ATP 250 tournament – will face Frenchman Alexandre Muller (56th) in the AO first round, while Jaime Faria (124th) – who won three matches in the tournament’s qualifying stages to make it to the main draw for the first time in his career – will face Russian rival Pavel Kotov (99nd).
The AO main tournament begins starts on January 12, with the women’s final scheduled for January 25 followed by the men’s final on January 26.
