Young university student found dead in street in Porto

Body of young man in 20s ‘barefoot’; ‘all hypotheses open’

A young university student was found dead on the public highway in Porto this Saturday, in circumstances that are still being investigated by the police, a source from the Porto PSP Metropolitan Command has confirmed

According to the source, the body was found shortly before 8am this morning by a woman who was passing along Travessa da Carvalhosa, in the parish of Cedofeita.

“The body showed marks of violence, so Judicial Police were contacted,” said the same source. But it has since transpired that whatever the marks were, they have not led police to suspect the involvement of any third party, nor of crime.

The body of the young man was barefoot, and close to a university residence.

The University of Porto has already expressed ‘its deepest sympathy for the death of a student resident at the Ventura Terra University Residence’, and announced that it has made a psychological support team available to provide ‘accompaniment to the students and staff who are at the residence this weekend’.
