President Marcelo has today named the 4th man to be given the responsibility of running the SNS (state health) executive direction – a second tier devised to oversee the running of the nation’s health service, but which somehow has never ‘taken off’: since the outset the SNS executive direction has simply floundered about in controversy, to the point that many are questioning its purpose (beyond providing more jobs, for more managers on substantial state salaries). Thus Álvaro Santos Almeida has been nominated to the job today, as Marcelo said, as a “defensive solution” for an entity that “had run badly up until now”.
