Visitors rate Algarve as tourism destination of excellence

Surveys show tourists see Algarve as a tourism destination of excellence

Tourism authorities in the Algarve are celebrating glowing high-season survey results which they say strengthen the region’s reputation as a “tourism destination of excellence”.

The surveys were carried out by the Observatory for Sustainable Tourism in the Algarve (AlgSTO) and results reveal overwhelmingly positive feedback from visitors, highlighting the region’s safety, environmental quality, and the friendliness of its residents.

An impressive 83.8% of tourists expressed their intention to return to the Algarve within the next five years, while 95.2% stated they would recommend the destination to others. “This level of loyalty underscores the overall satisfaction with the region’s tourism offerings,” the regional tourism board (RTA) says in a press release.

Nine in 10 tourists queried said that holidays and leisure were the main reasons why they chose the Algarve, with its beaches and sunshine among the most popular attractions (39%), followed by its gastronomy (23%) and sightseeing tours (16%).

The quality of tourist services also received high praise. Accommodation topped the list with a score of 4.31 out of 5, followed by restaurants at 4.19. The friendliness of locals was also a highlight, earning a 4.07 rating.

In terms of affordability, the Algarve is seen as a moderately priced destination, scoring 3.33 on the pricing scale. Accommodation was rated as the best value (3.53), while traditional shops (3.19) and shopping malls (3.16) were noted as offering more moderate prices.

“The results of these surveys are the confirmation of the excellent work we have been carrying out to promote the Algarve as a safe, sustainable and welcoming destination,” said RTA president André Gomes.

He added that the region remains focused on offering its visitors an “authentic experience” while maintaining a balance between the preservation of its natural resources and region’s economic growth.
