Cross-Border Contemporary Art Fair unites Spanish and Portuguese artists once more

The Fair, held from February 6 to 9 in the Eurocity of Guadiana, will bring together Spanish and Portuguese artists.

The Cross-Border Contemporary Art Fair is set to return from February 6 to 9. It will unite Spanish and Portuguese artists in the Guadiana Eurocity, which includes Ayamonte, Castro Marim, and Vila Real de Santo António.

The fair, an initiative of the Olontia Foundation, will feature exhibitions, concerts, conferences, poetry recitals, book presentations, and cultural visits.

Two parallel exhibitions will also be held in Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte. Visitors can appreciate works by renowned artists such as Picasso, José Caballero, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, and Ceesepe, alongside some of the most recognised photographers from the turn of the century in Spain.

In this context, 14 contemporary artists will exhibit their works at Casa do Sal de Castro Marim for four days. These include João Pedro Viegas, Julia Labrador, Lindsey Greshan, Filipe de Palma, Filipe Farinha, Pedro Noel da Luz, and Pedro Alves da Veiga, representing Portugal. On the Spanish side, the exhibiting artists are Juan Galán, Noelia Melara, Pedro Rodríguez, Juana Martín, Manuel González Flores, Pilar Lozano Iglesias, and Ángel García Roldán.

At the Historical Archive of Vila Real de Santo António, the exhibition “Passeio pelo amor e pale morte” (A walk through love and death) will be showcased. This exhibition results from a collaboration between Pablo Sycet, president of the Olontia Foundation and a recognised multidisciplinary artist, and writer Juan Cobos Wilkins.

The exhibition “Rostos e máscaras” (Faces and masks), on display at the Casa Grande in Ayamonte, presents a visual journey through the transformation of identity in Spain from the mid-1970s to the present day. Through photographs by artists such as César Lucas and Nacho Canut, the show explores the evolution of customs and individual expression within a changing socio-political context.

The exhibition reflects the struggle for freedom and diversity in Spain, with images ranging from 1977, the year of the first demonstration for sexual freedoms, to 2017, when Madrid was the Gay Pride Capital of the World.
