Former CHEGA MP suspected of stealing suitcases – and selling contents – returns to parliament

On a day when news could not have been worse for the party, former CHEGA MP Miguel Arruda has returned to his isolated spot in parliament, as an ‘independent’. He had been absent on ‘psychiatric sick leave’ for a week – and is expected to lose his parliamentary immunity ahead of questioning by police for the theft of suitcases from Lisbon and Ponta Delgada airports. Meantime, CHEGA leader André Ventura has conceded this is “not a good moment for the party” but that current scandals have not ‘fragilised’ his leadership.
