A potential manipulation of news/ public opinion has been highlighted by Portugal’s media regulator ERC (entidade reguladora para comunicação social) which has found that prime time news programmes on RTP1, RTP2, SIC, TVI and CMTV all have in common “the tendency to insert commentary slots in line-ups duly demarcated as opinion, being allocated to personalities that the operators present as commentators”. The “hybridisation between information and opinion has been detected in certain cases that defy clear delimitation of the nature of the content broadcast, which merits reflection”, adds the document.
