Portugal’s PSP (public security police) and GNR (national guard) will be supplied with tasers, with each force receiving 500 of these non-lethal pieces of equipment, deputy secretary of state for internal affairs Telmo Correia has announced. Stressing that tasers are “not a magic solution”, he added that his ministry asked both forces if they thought more equipment of this type would be useful, “and the answer was yes”. Thus the decision to purchase 200 for the GNR and 80 initially for the PSP was increased.
