Following all the criticisms of the police operation in Rua do Benformoso just before Christmas, it transpires that January alone saw 27 arrests in the Mouraria area that includes Rua do Benformoso and Martim Moniz. Nineteen of those arrests were for drug trafficking, three for driving without a valid licence, and the others were for ‘speculation’ (taxi), aggressions, illegal immigration and possession of a weapon.
